0.0		West	1.0	pass gate on west (Left) side of parking circle, go on paved path along side of lake.
1.0		gate		barrier at west end of path, requires going around it on dirt or gravel
1.0		Right onto road	0.1	Monument Rd (going West)
1.0		warning		Warning: this short section is a public road open to motor vehicle traffic.
1.1				pass by Reservoir Rd, which crosses the middle of the lake on a bridge.
1.1		barrier		carefully pass through concrete barriers
1.1		Straight	1.3	Monument Rd -- continue going West and Southwest (this section closed to motor vehicles as of May 2004)
1.9		site		across the top of the main dam, with a great view of the mountains to the west.
2.4		barrier		the public road visible beyond the concrete barrier is Route 28A
		Parking		Alternate parking by the west end of the route (GPS latitude-longitude = N41.9335,W74.2219 = 41.9335,-74.2219)
2.4		turn around	1.3	Monument Rd -- go back toward the East
3.3		site		side road to south (right) goes 0.1Mi to a large monument to J. Waldo Smith, Chief Engineer of the Ashokan Reservoir -- (closed as of May 2004 -- see Reports)
3.3		barrier	0.4	carefully pass through concrete barriers
3.7		Straight	0.1	continue on Monument Rd (going East)
3.7		warning		Warning: this short section is a public road open to motor vehicle traffic.
3.7				pass by Reservoir Rd
3.8		Left off road	1.0	unsigned -- East -- pass gate onto paved path which runs beside lake (going back on the same off-road path as before)
4.8		gate	0.0	pass gate (carefully)
